How to read our guides

How we research legal plans

Prepaid Legal Information publishes and maintains these guides and is responsible for their content and corrections. The guides organize public information into practical questions for consumers; they do not report hands-on provider testing or assign performance scores.

AI tools assist with research, drafting, source comparisons, and site development. AI source checks are not a substitute for professional legal judgment. These guides have not been independently reviewed by a licensed attorney and do not carry legal approval. For factual corrections, contact the publisher; do not send private case details.

Sources and dates

Provider contracts, FAQs, court websites, and legal-aid organizations are the main sources. Links sit near the claims they support. A source-check date records when information was researched; it does not make a quoted term permanent or a linked document the governing terms for every reader.

A working link does not establish that every statement on a page is current. Some sources block automated access or publish older documents. We distinguish those access limits from confirmed broken links, record unresolved verification separately, and do not treat a research date as certification of every linked page or local rule. Confirm current instructions with the relevant court or program before relying on them.

Provider examples

We identify employer-specific examples rather than applying them to every plan from a provider. When public information does not settle a question, we direct the reader to their current plan document and provider.

Pricing

A dated price example describes a particular public offer. Checkout terms, billing period, plan tier, employer rates, and location may change the amount you pay. Our calculator uses reader-entered amounts and does not predict guaranteed savings.

State resources

State guides connect readers to court information, forms, and legal-aid resources. A resource listing does not establish provider coverage or recommend a court strategy for an individual's case.

Editorial comparisons

We compare service models and questions to verify rather than naming a universal winner. General explanations and hypothetical examples are separated from sourced provider facts.

Commercial links

We are an approved US Legal Forms affiliate through Impact. We explain when links may earn us a commission in a disclosure near the relevant content. Government, court, and statute references remain ordinary unpaid links. Provider product and pricing references may earn us a commission when disclosed nearby. Affiliate status is not a service-quality finding or coverage confirmation. See the affiliate disclosure.

Editorial independence

Comparisons are based on documented service scope, costs, and limitations, not compensation. Compensation will not determine the facts, conclusions, or ordering of editorial comparisons. Commission-earning links and sponsored placements are disclosed next to the relevant content. This site does not claim hands-on provider testing, verified attorney availability, or a universal best plan.

Report a factual correction

info@prepaidlegalinformation.com

Include the page address, the passage you believe is incorrect, and a public source supporting the correction. Please do not send case files, private legal facts, identity documents, or other sensitive information. This mailbox is for website feedback, not legal advice, attorney intake, or urgent help.

Review dates and changes

A source-check date and a design update are different. We keep dated source examples and their limits visible rather than implying that a layout change re-verifies every linked claim. Corrections should identify the source and affected wording; unresolved access or verification limits should remain clear.

Editorial responsibility and commercial disclosures updated October 16, 2026. Source-check dates elsewhere retain their stated scope.
